Born To Rock N Roll Introduction




Singer, songwriter, legend – Marty Wilde, will celebrate his 50th anniversary in the music business, with the release of Born To Rock N’ Roll – The Greatest Hits – a sublime collection of all Marty’s best known tracks, with the addition of a brand new recording of the title track and an exclusive duet with his daughter Kim. Marty Wilde will celebrate anniversary with a concert which includes Marty Wilde, Eden Kane and Jet Harris and special guests: Roxanne Wilde and the Wildcats. The concert will be in Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone on November 18, 2010.

Born in Blackheath, he grew up in Greenwich, in South East London. The son of a professional
soldier, he lived in various parts of England throughout his childhood, and reached the middle of his teen years living in London.

He was performing under the name Reg Patterson at London's Condor Club in 1957 when he was spotted by impresario Larry Parnes. Parnes gave his protégées stage names like Billy Fury, Duffy Power and Dickie Pride etc., hence the change to Wilde.The 'Marty' came from the commended 1955 film, Marty.

Wilde was signed to the British recording arm of Philips Records, with U.S. releases appearing on the Epic label via Philips' reciprocal licensing agreement with Columbia Records Stateside. (Philips had yet to acquire the Mercury group as its U.S. division).
